Who are Karibu?

A Youth Education Centre in Brixton offering psychological and educational support to children aged 14 – 19). Most of the young people from the centre are from deprived backgrounds and are neither in education, training or employment.

Why did we choose them?

We wanted a charity were we felt we could make a difference. Karibu are a small charity in Lambeth, a borough that receives little in the way of support from businesses. Our ability to add value and impact to Karibu was far greater than if we were to support one of the national charities. Karibu covers education and children, 2 of the main areas that the employee survey said we held an interest in.

How will Goodman Masson support Karibu?

  • We act as Trustee/Board Members and support the governance and strategic direction of the charity.
  • Career workshops. We developed and facilitated a series of half-day workshops during Karibu's Summer School programme. These covered the 'world of work' such as CV, interview, presentation skills, an introduction to City careers, first impressions, work experience and job hunting.
  • 8 members of Goodman Masson took part in this during August 2009 and the programme will take place twice this year. Easter and summer holidays.
  • Decorating: A team of fifteen spent the day repainting their community centre followed by an evening enjoying Caribbean foods.
  • Practical decorating/clear out volunteers – Open to all staff , teams of volunteers needed to re-paint the two main halls and re-organise the store cupboard (ideally before August)
  • IT systems support. We donated 2 printers for their IT centre and helped them implement broadband.
