John Lawson

Position : Head of Finance & Operations

The beauty of my role is that rarely are any two days are the same. Although I am predominantly finance based I am very much involved with the cut and thrust of the business, constantly interacting with the sales teams, back office and the board.

 

A key area of my role is to provide the board with all the financial and operational information they need to make the right decisions for the business. By providing the board and our management team with live performance analysis we are able stay ahead of the market and drive the business forward.

 

I have a fantastic finance team around me with whom I interact daily, whether it be ensuring that all of our candidates are being paid, reviewing the management accounts, monitoring the company sales ledger or managing the cash flow of the business, we all work hard and pull together. As a team we are constantly reviewing our procedures and implementing financial controls and processes to help benefit the business.

 

On the operational front I work hand in hand with the IT team to develop the company infrastructure, and drive the design and implementation of operational and business analysis processes.

 

Although every day is different they are all very rewarding.

 

Outside of work most of my time is taken up with my family, especially my young daughter who has taught me the valuable lesson that you can survive on 6 hours sleep a night.

 

And whenever I can I grab the opportunity to sit in front of the football cheering on Newcastle Utd, often with a bottle of dog.
