Position: Managing Director
I joined Goodman Masson in February 2009 after spending nearly 10 years working for a large global recruitment business. I left and welcomed the chance to join Goodman Masson because I was at a stage in my career when I really wanted to take ownership for building a business and sometimes working within the confines of a global corporate can make this difficult.
I'm responsible for over 75 of our sales and support staff so like many within our business my working week has a huge amount of variety. I typically use the early part of the week to analyse our performance and acquire a detailed update from my senior management team about the objectives and plans for the week ahead. My role is all about driving sales performance so my weeks are filled with either internal meetings discussing sales performance or meeting with and leading pitches to new clients. I'm incredibly proud of our sales track record over recent years and we continue to demonstrate fabulous growth in market share because of the clients we acquire (94% success rate in pitches during 2011). We now have a wonderful client base and are preferred suppliers to over 160 different clients across numerous sectors.
Our business is organised into a number of divisions; Banking, Practice, Commerce & Industry, Finance Change, Audit, Tax, Treasury & Banking Operations. Within each of these separate divisions we have specialist teams that focus on specific markets. Each team then consists of consultants and researchers that then also focus on a certain industry sector. I've chosen to interlink both a market and sector specialism into our structure because I want everyone in the business to become both a market and sector specialist. This unique business model is central to our sales strategy and has had a profound influence on our revenue growth in recent years. This structure delivers everyone a wonderful platform to build strong partnerships with both their client community and candidate population.
I want every employee to be given a certain amount of structure and support, but I also want us all to work in an environment that has a real feeling of freedom and flexibility. Operating in an environment like this creates a huge sense of autonomy and I want us all to feel really empowered when we work in this business, this is so important to me. When you have ownership for something you have a sense of responsibility and take pride in what you do, which will, and continues to have a huge influence on our overall performance.
I couldn't be more proud of our achievements over recent years and remain so excited about what we will achieve in the years to come!
