Temping Protocol
To ensure that you are a successful temp there are a number of things that you must do. Examples of these are:
- You need to be open and honest with your consultant on what you are looking for.
- Once you have been placed, discuss any concerns or problems that you may have about your role with the consultant. They will be able to offer advice on what to do.
- You will need to fill in regular timesheets and get them to the agency promptly to make sure that you get paid on time. As a result all discussions about pay should be with your consultant and not the company where you have been placed.
- If you are planning on leaving an assignment early you must always let your consultant know first.
As a temp you are essentially employed by the agency that placed you. Once placed, you will be an ambassador for the agency you are working for. Not only will your performance reflect on you but it will also reflect on the recruitment agency that placed you there. Simple things like turning your mobile to silent and not taking calls during working hours, plus not using the internet for personal use will ensure that you are seen as professional and conscientious.
During an assignment you should make sure that you are visible in the company. Do this by attending social events and promoting yourself to the right people. When your assignment is coming to an end ask them if they know if there are any other openings in the company that you might be suitable for. Even if there are no openings at the time, if you make a good impression they may ask to have you back when another assignment does come up.
Keep in regular contact with your consultant, especially when an assignment is drawing to a close. Provided that you have been professional in previous roles they will be more than happy to look for new roles for you. At Goodman Masson your consultant will know when your assignment is coming to an end and will let you know of suitable roles in advance.
