Market Update
Temporary & Contract Finance Market Overview – Q1
As the economy starts to show indications of a return to normality the temporary and contract market has responded, especially with candidates arriving from overseas. Over the previous 12 months we saw a reduction in the arrival of antipodeans at our shores, which created difficulties in terms of ensuring candidate volume and candidate quality.
Now that businesses are recruiting again and the market is much more fluid, this community of highly respected professionals are back in the air and destined for London making the temporary market once again one of premier quality, one of choice and one of fierce competition. Market rates have begun to stabilise yet the volume of quality people readily available will always ensure that value for money is secured.
The last quarter has seen:
- A notable increase in the need and demand for temporary workers
- High-calibre candidates once again being placed quickly, sometimes creating a candidate shortage
- Strong demand for Financial/ Management/Group Accountants and Analysts
- Some demand for contractors is to repopulate under-resourced finance functions (as a consequence of lean-processing last year)
- Market rates are increasing as recruiters have the money to pay appropriately for the right people and pay premiums to secure the ‘superstars’
- Decision making is now much quicker coupled with a shorter recruitment process.
