The difference between the company I co-founded and the business Goodman Masson is today is remarkable, I could never have imagined what the company has become. It is a journey that has been all about the people. There have been memorable highs, some dreadful lows and incredible changes. It is hard to imagine that when we started the business in 1993 there was no such thing as the internet and mobile phones were like bricks.
 
In the start-up phase I focussed all my energy on revenue generation. After Avi Bradman joined the company I was able to ally my recruitment experience to his business background and we were the backbone of the team that took the company from being a start up to being a consistently productive and profitable business. Ultimately Avi and I realised we needed more, so we created the platform for others to take over the management of the business. I would say it was a bold and foresighted decision, others may disagree, but the following years have seen Goodman Masson make great strides thanks to an incredibly talented and committed group of people.
 
I am immensely proud of our brand and that we are recognised as an award winning employer. Our conviction is that our people will always be our first priority. We will always place our trust in our people to give a great service to our clients and candidates.

I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of the Goodman Masson story. I remember when I first mentioned to my mother that I would be joining a recruitment business. She was not overly impressed. Why wasn’t I getting a job at a proper company like Disney or an Airline?
 
How wrong she was!!
 
From the moment that I joined Goodman Masson, initially as the interim Financial Controller, I discovered that I loved the energy, intensity and excitement of working in a recruitment business. The contrast to my early days of qualifying as a chartered accountant could not have been more startling.
 
Since then I became Financial Director, secured an MBO of one of the original founders, led the business as Chief Executive and then became Executive Chairman. A fundamental principle of my career has always been to identify the right time and circumstance to replace myself with people best suited to take that role and Goodman Masson forward. Hence my decision to replace myself as Financial Director and then as CEO.
 
Goodman Masson is a wonderful business and one of my proudest achievements. We genuinely and truly put the development, well-being and success of our people as our top strategic priority. We do this because it reflects the values of the owners of the business, because it creates a wonderful environment to work in and critically it allows us to do a superb job for our clients.

I love what I do and I love our business.
 
I have spent nearly all my working life inside the recruitment industry…and it fascinates me; it’s vibrant and has become one of the most important industry sectors of our economy. We are the bellwether of economic change and remain privileged that we help companies succeed and people find new and exciting opportunities.
 
Yet I have a fascination with the collective failure of businesses to look after their people. Why are businesses not built so their people want to be part of them and don’t want to leave. And this engulfs my ambitions for the workplace.

That’s why I created The Experience®…to turn Goodman Masson into a modern workplace that challenges, engages, inspires and makes us happy.
 
And in many ways I feel in a position of responsibility to share the reasons behind our achievements so that we can continue to play a central role in shaping the recruitment industry and help change the face of UK business …something that I remain very proud of.

I lead a group of over 90 consultants that are predominantly permanent recruiters, the teams range in size and specialism operating across numerous sectors supporting companies that range from start-ups to some of the largest companies in the world. Since joining Goodman Masson in early 2009, I’ve spent a lot of my time building teams and hiring professionals that possess a passion for a specialism and an industry sector. This has supported our development into true subject matter experts and supported our rapid growth over recent years. During this growth journey, Goodman Masson has also strived and pushed boundaries like no other business I’m aware of, to create a unique working environment…that sounds like quite a bold statement I appreciate, but the more I continue to learn about my industry and the competition the more comfortable I am that is exactly what we’ve achieved. After nearly 20 years in this industry I still really love what I do, but the fact that I work with the people I do in a company like Goodman Masson makes me very proud indeed.

I look after teams covering Part-Qualified, Qualified and Director level roles across Financial Services, Commerce and Industry and Public Sector. I also have responsibility for the Marketing team. If you are going to do something, do it properly. I take our claim that “we are the best in the market” very seriously. I expect everyone that works here to try and be just that in everything we do. Clients and candidates are the same people and we treat them all as customers. We continually look to innovate in what we do and we will remain the best in what we do. The way we conduct business, the way we treat our people and the way we have constantly evolved means that I am consistently challenged and truly proud of what we have built and are building. I wanted to join the firm in 2009 because of the people I met. I turn up every day because of the people I work with.
