What are my responsibilities:
Directly reporting in to the Senior VAT Manager, you will be responsible for managing day to day compliance for those Siemens businesses registered for VAT in the UK allocated to you.
You will ensure that all VAT returns and payments for the businesses within your area of responsibility are submitted and paid on time, reviewing draft returns on a timely basis and making
recommendations in respect of adjustments prior to submission.
You will provide support to both the Senior VAT Manager and businesses by providing proactive advice and guidance on relevant VAT issues and queries to legal, commercial and finance staff in the business units, carrying out appropriate on site VAT reviews and health checks.
You will also assist the Senior VAT Manager in relation to Governance of the VAT function in the UK, reviewing accounting systems and contributing to compliance with Sarbanes Oxley and Senior Accounting Officer requirements. You will work alongside the VAT Senior Manager to manage VAT projects, tax planning initiatives and audits undertaken by Tax Authorities.
You will have responsibility for the indirect tax compliance of and the provision of advice to group businesses registered for VAT in the UK.
Supports the Senior VAT Manager in areas of VAT and systems governance (including Sarbanes Oxley and Senior Accounting Officer), Tax Authority audits and enquiries, project management and tax planning.
Timely submission of accurate VAT returns and payments: Monitoring due dates and liaising with GSS and other information providers to ensure that draft VAT returns are obtained promptly, allowing sufficient time to carry out technical reviews and adjustments prior to submission.
Indirect Tax Project Teamwork and Management: Working with the VAT team on the implementation of large scale European and UK indirect tax projects and taking responsibility for the management and delivery of local projects and initiatives.
Assisting in resolving Tax Authority audits and enquiries, responding to correspondence, liaising with GSS, businesses and other information providers reviewing information for accuracy and completeness to ensure that all enquiries are resolved in a timely manner.
Tax Planning & Innovation: Implementation of appropriate indirect tax planning and cash flow optimisation strategies, disseminating opportunities and facilitating the roll out across the UK, where appropriate providing continuous guidance to improve the competitiveness and to reduce the tax cash-out on a long-term basis.
What do I need to qualify for the role?
Extensive experience working within VAT is essential
A background within a Big 4 would be preferred but not essential
SAP knowledge would be beneficial
TAX/VAT qualification - CTA/AIIT would be highly desirable
Excellent communications skills
