Role Title: Assistant Financial Controller || Salary: approx. £50,000 plus bonus

This role is working for a start-up PE business who predominantly invest in businesses in the sustainable energy sector.

The position is for a qualified Assistant Financial Controller to work closely with the FC and CFO. This is an extremely broad role and is perfect for someone recently qualified and looking to take on a lot of responsibility and be influential in the growth of the business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review journal entries and close books on a monthly basis
  • Prepare monthly board packs
  • Data gathering, organising and coordinating for financial reporting, budgeting and other requirements of the firm.
  • Provision of analytical support across the business
  • Reviewing and developing processes, procedures and controls
  • Assist in the preparation of statutory accounts
  • Provide regular and ad-hoc reports to non-finance employees
  • Prepare and file quarterly VAT returns
  • Preparation of annual corporate tax returns and various other tax filings and liaise with consultants for filing
  • Interact with team members to prepare and track invoices issued to clients
  • Monitor client reimbursable accounts
  • Ownership of Accounts Payable function and payments

Additional Responsibilities:


  • Preparation and submission of all regulatory filings
  • Responding to information requests from the FCA


  • Manage monthly payroll for two entities


  • General scheme administration including: adding/removing individuals
  • Monthly contributions
  • Conformance to auto-enrolment and other legislation

Company secretarial Responsibilities

  • Prepare and file annual returns
  • Maintaining statutory books, including registers of members, directors and secretaries;

Ad-hoc projects

Person Profile:

  • Qualified Accountant
  • Ability to work well under pressure and tight deadlines;
  • Intermediate to advanced use of Excel (desirable);
  • Have the ability to explain complex financial information in a clear way;
  • Demonstrate professionalism and commitment;
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Be self-motivated
