1st Line Conduct Risk Analyst

Location: London

Type of role: Contract (6 months)

Role Summary

  • This is a unique chance to become the main person dealing with Conduct and Regulation within our Risk & Controls team. a truly innovative, customer-centric digital bank with a start-up culture

  • You'll be our primary point of contact on conduct and regulatory matters, guiding through complexity, and making sure we're compliant with regulations and with conduct policies and processes

  • We offer challenge, support, a flat structure, and the chance to be part of delivering something really special

What's involved?

You'll be a key part of first line of defence, making sure that we understand conduct and compliance risk, that we have the processes, procedures and training in place to manage it well, and that we keep customers at the forefront of all decisions.

To do that, you'll liaise with central second line support functions such as Legal, Risk, and Regulatory Affairs, and with Internal Audit. You'll then use those relationships to interpret legal and regulatory requirements, make sure that they are understood - along with the associated risks - and that we have the right solutions in place to make sure we're compliant and that risks are controlled. You'll also be proactive as the regulatory landscape continues to change, making sure we're prepared for new laws, regulations, policies and processes.

You'll also:

  • Make sure we keep the records we need to show that we comply with legal and regulatory obligations relating to our products and the customers we target

  • Work with the data analytics team to design and produce high quality first line risk MI

  • Represent wide conduct and regulatory initiatives, bringing in best practice where appropriate

  • Design and embed a framework to manage upstream risk regarding regulatory compliance and change

Skills, experience & qualities needed

We're looking for someone with strong retail financial services experience, and excellent knowledge of the law, regulations and practices that apply to retail finance in the UK. You should have a strong understanding of bank policies and their approach to risk management, and a good awareness of offering and the commercial environment we operate in.

You'll also bring:

  • A history of identifying and designing effective solutions that are in proportion to the risks they address

  • Proven strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to support and influence at all levels of a complex organisation

  • Excellent communication and planning skills, allowing you to mobilise support to deliver on objectives

  • A strategic, organised approach, and the ability to perform well in pressurised situations

Qualities we need in all our people

  • Sense of adventure - comfort with ambiguity and the ability to find a path through it
  • Natural conscientiousness
  • Humility: you need to know what you don't know, and be prepared to learn and adapt
  • Ability to dive into detail as needed (even when it's a bit hard going)
  • Low status consciousness (this isn't the place for 'empire builders')
  • Desire to make an impact and willingness to work at pace
  • Empathy: for our customers and each other
  • Collaborative natural workstyle and the courage to know when to take a stand

What we offer

  • The ability to work alongside and learn from other skilled practitioners across a range of specialities
  • Commitment to equality and individuality
  • A business underpinned by a social purpose
  • Flat organisational structure with relatively low levels of bureaucracy
  • There's no dress code and we're open-minded about work patterns. Although it's fine to work from home a day or so, we highly value the interaction and camaraderie that comes from working alongside the rest of us here at our central London location
  • There's a shower and room to store your bike if you ride, or we're a very short walk from Green Park tube
  • We even make room for well-behaved dogs
