A well-known, market-leading retailer are looking for a Transactional Finance Manager to join their wider Finance team.

Reporting to the Director of Group Finance, you will be managing the accounts payable, accounts receivable and cash book function. This role will involve extensive people management, as well as exposure to key internal and external stakeholders in the business.

Your duties will include overseeing a high volume of transactions on both the sales and purchase ledger, overseeing a high volume of cash and expenses postings, performing general ledger reconciliations, producing management reports, and assisting in month-end processes.

Key Responsibilities

Accounts Payable/Expenses

  • Work closely with the Management Accountants, Head Office departments and Operation teams across the UK and overseas business to ensure invoices are paid within vendor payment terms
  • Develop the accounts payable team to support a large international business across various brands
  • Manage supplier reconciliations and supplier relationships
  • Manage the employee expenses system including providing support during the busy periods
  • Detailed review of weekly payment run
  • Critically reviewing the accounts payable control environment and working to develop and implement robust controls, policies and processes to meet the demands of the rapidly growing group
  • Taking full ownership of the accounts payable process including maintenance and accuracy of the payable ledgers
  • Managing the monthly close of accounts payable information and supporting the accounting team with reporting and analysis
  • Assist with the preparation of the year-end audit file and liaison with auditors relating to the AP ledger
  • Implement and own periodic reporting of KPIs at the team and individual levels, implement a Quality control process to ensure service levels meet the agreed targets
  • Supporting other areas of finance, including Financial Reporting and Commercial Finance in other ad hoc queries

Accounts Receivable

  • Leading the credit control and company's procedures
  • Maintain and develop accounts receivable dashboard of KPIs to drive process improvements
  • Coaching and supporting internal colleagues in credit control techniques
  • Supporting periodic cash flow forecasting
  • Ensuring cash allocations are completed and reviewed weekly for accuracy
  • Personally handle problem aged accounts
  • Work with the accounts receivable team and senior management to significantly reduce debtor days and increase cash collections
  • Oversee weekly reconciliation of trade debtors
  • Provide weekly billing and debtor summaries to finance leadership and business teams
  • Assist with the preparation of the year-end audit file and liaison with auditors relating to the accounts receivable ledger

Cash Book

  • Oversee and review cash book postings and reconciliation of cash books to bank statements
  • Action payments by various methods
  • Periodic review and forecasting of foreign cash balances
  • Monitoring inter-company foreign payments
  • Assessing foreign currencies needs and requesting buying and selling of the same
  • Develop clear lines of communication with all areas of the company
  • Maintain good relationships with various banks
  • Setting up new users, loading with banks as an when needed
  • Escalate appropriately unresolved queries and problems
  • Identify and participate in the development of new processes and systems

Other Duties

  • Ensure process manual is fully up to date and all controls and processes in above teams are documented
  • Staff appraisals and continuous personal development
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement and effectiveness of the finance function
  • Business partnering with key contacts in the departments, ensuring team deliver first class service reflective of different wants and needs
  • Ad hoc queries from the business

Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience managing high volumes of invoices, payments and bank transactions in a large, fast-paced environment
  • Basic accounting knowledge and qualification is essential (BSc Accounting and Finance or AAT)
  • Previous people management experience, with experience in motivating, coaching and developing a team
  • Ability to drive continuous improvement, adopting best practice where possible, and a good working knowledge of typical medium to large business processes

You will need strong interpersonal skills for interacting with both financial and non-financial employees, senior management and external stakeholders. You will be a problem solver with a high attention to detail, and have the ability to work to tight deadlines. You will be determined, persistent, committed and ambitious.
