A wealth/asset manager is looking for an experience compliance monitoring professional to head up their compliance monitoring and Surveillance team

The purpose of this role is to:

Reporting to the CRO with a dotted line to the Group Head of Compliance, the role provides support in the design, delivery and continuous improvement of the Group's Compliance Monitoring & Thematic Review framework, methodology and plan and all aspects of their practical application.


  • Lead the compliance monitoring and thematic review teams; effectively manage staff to ensure they are motivated and perform their functions to the required standard and continue to develop
  • Implement, manage and keep under review a Compliance Monitoring & Thematic Review framework for the regulated entities within the Group
  • Manage relations with key stakeholders:
  • Build and maintain effective relations between the compliance monitoring team and the business
  • Manage relations between the compliance monitoring team and other parts of the compliance, risk and internal audit teams
  • Stay abreast of developments in FCA rules and good practice and ensure the Compliance Monitoring & Thematic Review framework remains fit for purpose in light of these
  • Assist in the management of the wider compliance and governance teams
  • Liaise with Authorised Fund Operators/ Authorised Corporate Directors and respond to their queries
  • Manage the compliance monitoring process and ensure reviews are conducted on time according to the agreed compliance monitoring programme
  • Enhance and further develop monitoring tasks specifically in respect of Anti Money Laundering and Market Abuse
  • Conduct due diligence as required
  • Make proposals to the annual Compliance Monitoring Plan for agreement by the Executive Risk Management Committee and in coordination with Internal Audit
  • Review all thematic review Terms of Reference before a review begins to ensure that all risks have been covered
  • Support the team in liaising with the 1st line in respect of the review process and methodology to manage expectations
  • Oversee field work
  • Ensure issues are escalated to the appropriate people in a timely manner such that there are "no surprises"
  • Ensure that reviews and reports are delivered in a timely manner and are of the expected quality
  • Attend close out meetings, as required
  • Follow up of actions and testing of controls such that they can be closed

Required experience

  • Compliance Monitoring & Thematic Review framework awareness; sound understanding of industry practices and disciplines having implemented frameworks in the past
  • Regulatory awareness; working knowledge of FCA rules and Sourcebooks and good understanding of the emerging regulatory landscape
  • Commercial awareness; sound judgement and evidence of pragmatic and innovative problem solving, understanding of retail investment products and financial services in the wealth management sector
  • Autonomous, self-motivated and delivery focused; proven ability to prioritise, manage and deliver multiple tasks and own workload without supervision
  • Analytical; in-depth analysis and reasoned judgments delivered in a disciplined and structured manner
  • Collaborator and team player; both with the 1st line and wider 2nd line as well as the outsourced service provider of internal audit services
