A well-known and reputable Financial Services business are looking for a Project Accountant to join their wider Finance Team.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Project Accountant to join a dynamic and fast-paced environment. The role will report to one of the Finance Managers and support all financial activities on the Programme, including month-end processes, MI reporting, business case analysis and project forecasting. You will have exposure to senior stakeholders both internal and external to the Programme and will evolve over the lifetime of the Programme.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Own and lead the Programmes month end process, including accruals and expense management for the Programme
  • Ensure compliance with financial processes and controls
  • Partnering with Project Managers to ensure accurate project forecasts and providing challenge and insight on variances to approved spend; applying stringent change control and value for money principles
  • Support Project Managers with change requests and project business cases
  • Assist Finance with project depreciation projections and ongoing costs
  • Management of the Programmes risks, opportunities, assumption and change control log
  • Raising purchase orders and cost management of capital and fixed price purchases
  • Reconciliation of programme resource supply account, ensuring over and under recoveries are within tolerance
  • Build Programme financial MI for Programme Boards and governance, including variance commentary to approved spend
  • Be responsible for the Programmes annual budget process and interlock to Central Finance
  • Report Programme level forecasts to Central Finance on a monthly basis and provide commentary on YTD variances
  • Provide ad-hoc support across the PMO team of the wider Programme

Role Requirements

Essential Criteria

  • Proven experience in a financial control environment
  • Part-qualified or finalist CIMA/ACA/ACCA (or equivalent)
  • Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, SUMIF etc)
  • Proficient in Word and PowerPoint
  • Good interpersonal skills and previous experience of working with senior stakeholder
  • Experience of compiling financial information for governance board packs
  • Proven ability to identify areas for efficiency and establish new processes
  • The ability to prioritise and handle a changing workload, while maintaining attention to detail
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience with analytical tools such as Excel PowerQuery and PowerPivot, and Tableau
  • Understanding of the difference between waterfall and agile delivery methods
  • Previous experience of programme/project accounting is desirable
  • Exposure to a large Programme environment would be beneficial
