Our client is a privately held British property company. They are investing in the creation of in-house construction and house building businesses to deliver its exciting programme of refurbishment, conversion and development of a range of its property assets. to joining a start-up business but with the financial strength supporting its development. You will therefore be capable of acting on your own initiative to recommend and develop relationships, negotiate advantageous purchasing arrangements and ensure the efficient and timely supply of materials to our various construction sites. They are a dynamic, can-do, ambitious organisation and this role requires someone that will embrace and reflect these characteristics.

Key Responsibilities

Managing all buying arrangements in respect of our construction and maintenance activities including:

  • Negotiate the best possible supply chain arrangements with key materials suppliers.
  • Develop long-term strategic relationships with suppliers to ensure economies of scale are maximised.
  • Schedule and place material and plant orders optimising cost and quality
  • Check Architects/Engineers drawings for discrepancies and compliance with the required material specification. Thereafter resolving any queries with the relevant consultants/architect’s team.
  • Produce material cost schedules and budgets for new projects and monitor material costs to ensure budgets are not exceeded.
  • Project and report material cost increases as they arise.
  • Resolve invoice queries with the accounts team.
  • Carry out material on site checks and produce reports as required Attend sites frequently to ensure there are no problems with supplies/materials.


  • A demonstrable expert understanding of construction industry procurement.
  • A proven track record of delivering an effective buying function in the construction industry.
  • An excellent understanding of the materials supply chain.
  • To have a professional qualification in a related field.
  • Excellent financial and numerical skills including budget and cash-flow management.
  • Excellent negotiation skills.
  • Ability to plan and prioritise workloads.
  • Ability to control and manage costs.
  • A minimum of 4 year’s experience of accountancy within a construction business.
