What does this year’s International Women’s Day theme #EmbraceEquity mean to you?
This year’s IWD theme is to get the world talking about why equal opportunities aren’t enough. Equality means each individual or group of people is given the same resources or opportunities. Whereas Equity recognizes that each person has different circumstances, and allocates the exact resources and opportunities needed to reach an equal outcome. A quote said “Equality is giving everyone a shoe. Equity is giving everyone a shoe that fits.”
I think this is so important as commonly women, people of colour, disabled people, the economically disadvantaged, and those from the LGBTQ+ community are not given or born with the same opportunities and it can make it more difficult to achieve goals therefore #EmbraceEquity will really insinuate a real fair life. Fair doesn’t always mean the SAME!
What is your proudest achievement whilst working at Goodman Masson?
My proudest achievement since working at Goodman Masson has been last month when I won Business Services Performer of the month for January and was shortlisted as the Apprentice of The Year for Apprenticeship Connect, with awards night held at the end of this month!
I have been working extremely hard since I started and being recognised for my hard work by the wider business as well as the team at Apprenticeship Connect made me extremely proud of myself and motivated me to keep on putting in 110% effort.
What is the most important piece of advice you would give to your younger self?
Learn to practice gratitude daily. When you express gratitude for the little things in life, like your morning coffee, you learn to really appreciate everything for what you have. I have noticed too that when I am always finding the positive in things, the more positive things I attract!
Who is your role model?
My role model is my older sister, she has really helped me to develop into the person I am today and if I ever need advice she is always the first person I turn to. She has not had the easiest time recently however still remains the KINDEST person I know, for which I really admire her.
