Have you ever wondered what life inside our Goodman Masson Academy is like? We asked a bunch of our most successful academy members to share their experiences to give you a better insight into life at GM, should you wish to join our next academy!
This week we’re putting our Investment Management Operations Senior Executive Consultant, Mia Walsh, in the limelight to learn about her journey since joining the academy back in September 2017. Fast forward 5 years and Mia has been promoted three times. Have a scroll to learn more…
What would you advise your younger self just starting the academy?
Believe in yourself and take time to enjoy the highs of recruitment! I was always pushing myself to be constantly better, but on reflection, I wish I had taken the time to enjoy the small, as well as the big wins. Whilst it’s good to be driven and motivated, you need to recognise when your hard work has paid off to avoid burning yourself out.
What has your career journey at Goodman Masson looked like?
Goodman Masson has consistently provided me with clear goals and incentives to enable progression. The career ladder is significantly beneficial to consultants as it provides transparency and highlights the importance of softer competencies as well as financial targets. From a personal perspective, I am grateful that Goodman Masson provides consultants with control and flexibility to develop their career as they wish. Up until 12 months ago, I was working my way up towards an Associate Director of Sales, however, with the encouragement and support of my leaders I have been provided with the opportunity to take my career in a new direction towards Management.
What type of clients have you worked with?
I recruit within the Investment Management and Hedge Fund Industry across London and Europe. I work with large global organisations as well as boutiques and start-ups. I enjoy the variation of my clients and seeing how my relationships have developed over the last few years.
What is your favourite aspect of the job?
The wins! I am naturally a very competitive person, so working in a results-driven environment is perfect for me!
