Our Environment network joined over 326 million people worldwide for plastic free July. So we asked them what plastic free changes did they make and which ones they will stick to. Here is what they said…
“The best thing I have implemented and will continue doing so is buying my salad and vegetables from the farmers market. Because I can buy the exact quantity I need and even mix up the different salad types. Also nothing new, but I always carry my water bottle and foldable coffee cup with me.”
Adriana Palasescu, Germany Marketing Executive
“I am now using beeswax wrap instead of plastic wrap on my food and am LOVING it – good for wrapping things like cheese or covering leftovers when you do not want to use Tupperware. I also have the best cup, it keeps drinks cold or hot and I never leave the house without – great for coffee, iced drinks and wine etc in the park. Also, I don’t use plastic bags – I always use my cloth tote bag for shopping.”
Rachel Webster, Associate Director
“I’ve committed to only ever eating Tonys Chocoloney. I’ve switched to refillable hand soaps from the plastic free shop! And I have changed to smol laundry and washing tabs”
Rhiannon Grace Broad, Client Services Executive
“We now have a bag on the fridge to put things like empty bread bags to take to the supermarket to recycle.”
Matt Bullock, Associate Director
“I’ve become the Top-Up Truck lead for our flats, it now comes twice a month and I buy all my dry stores and washing up liquids from that. As much as it’s great for the environment, I have also learned it’s great for the community too. Some of my older neighbours find going to the supermarket difficult due to arthritis etc, so they really like the pre-order of the TUT and that they will refill your bottles for you, it’s very accessible!”
Sophie Penno-Charles, Senior Consultant
“I bought a Brita filter so I can fill up my reusable bottle rather than buying bottled water.”
Sorcha Donnelly, Associate Consultant
“I’ve been trying to be more aware of the plastic I’m using. Little things like not ordering takeaways from restaurants I know use plastic containers. Asking to have the same cup refilled at places that only serve takeaway drinks. I’ve also switched to using a bar of soap rather than using soap in a plastic bottle. And trying to be more consistent with things I’ve always done like taking a tote bag with me everywhere so I don’t need plastic bags, refilling my drink bottle instead of buying a new one etc. My next step is to find a local grocer for fruit and vegetables so that I don’t have all the packaging which you get at the supermarket.”
Sara Campbell, Consultant
“I’ve started using smol dishwasher tablets, I’ve bought a reusable coffee cup which folds completely flat (Stojo I’d highly recommend). I now buy all rice, grains, porridge oats etc from the local plastic free shop and put them into jars at home. I have also started buying shampoo and conditioner in one bulk container from Faith in Nature and transfer it into glass bottles I also bought a rucksack from got bag made from retrieved ocean plastic!”
