Have you ever wondered what life inside our Goodman Masson Academy is like? We asked a bunch of our most successful academy members to share their experiences to give you a better insight into life at GM, should you wish to join our next academy!
This week we’re putting to our Charities & Not for Profit Consultant, Shazia Paris, in the limelight to learn about her journey since joining the academy back in August 2021. Have a scroll to learn more…
What attracted you to Goodman Masson?
I knew a couple of people working at Goodman Masson who spoke very highly of the culture and the high-performance environment. From my first meeting with Jake Freeman and Mia Walsh, I knew Goodman Masson was the recruitment firm for me. Their clear progression pathway allows you to be in control of your success. Goodman Masson are very good at pairing Consultants with the desk they believe would be the best fit for them. Aside from that, Goodman Masson organise fantastic events and have some amazing internal networks (Pride, Balance, Unity and Access) that you can become a part of.
Goodman Masson 100% possesses an employee-first attitude.
How would you describe the company culture here at Goodman Masson?
The company culture at Goodman Masson is amazing! Everyone really celebrates your achievements, supports you through the challenges, and coaches you to continuously progress along the career ladder. There are also lots of fun experiences to get involved in, a constant flow of breakfast options, and our wellbeing is always thought of through treats like weekly massages!
What does a day in the life of someone in recruitment or your desk look like?
On the Charities & Not-for-Profit desk, a typical day usually begins with a team catch-up to run through the roles we are working on and any support we need with these. I then like to spend the first half of the day resourcing for roles and having calls or meetings with candidates to screen them/prep them for interviews. In the afternoons I focus on business development. This will involve catching up with my warmer clients, chasing roles advertised online, and cold calling colder clients to try and establish and develop those newer relationships. In between all of this, I would usually do my admin, catch up on emails, and post job adverts.
How is this role different from what you thought?
There is a lot more flexibility than I thought there would be, as how you structure your day is entirely up to you, and once you have worked out what works best for you when prioritising the roles you are working on, business development and your other tasks, it is a lot easier to keep on top of the workload. The business development side of things is also a lot less daunting once you get started and I have really enjoyed establishing relationships with my key clients!
