Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the staff costs for assigned Business Units – actuals and forecasts
  • Timely preparation of detailed staff costs P&L, Balance Sheet disclosures and headcount schedules for all WPP reporting deadlines in line with the internal timetable set by the Financial Director
  • Ensuring all information is complete and accurate, GL review, transaction reallocation, posting month end journals and TB reconciliation. Agreeing intercompany time of staff with counterparties
  • Check reporting is in line with WPP guidelines and clearly ties back to Maconomy
  • Dealing with any queries or anomalies


  • Preparing detailed P&L forecasts of staff costs which are updated on at least a monthly basis
  • Preparing monthly/quarterly WPP forecast reporting schedules including headcount analysis
  • Liaising with the members of the Business Units to ensure all open positions are included
  • Payroll sign off review starters and leavers, in depth review of client capacity plans ensuring P&L forecasts include the right level of resource
  • Agreeing and reporting forecast shared resource requirements with other reporting units

Payroll Processing, PO’s, Hire Process

  • Assist processing the company payrolls along with the other members of the staff costs team
  • Ensuring that processing is done accurately and in a timely and efficient manner
  • Opening Jobs and approving PO’s relating to Staff Costs
  • Active involvement in review of hire requests and management of supplier Freelance portal
  • Help manage Staff Cost Ratio by questioning cost rates, ensuring supplier credits are received

Staff Cost Management & Allocations

  • Ensuring recharges between various operating companies are invoiced as appropriate on a timely basis and allocated correctly
  • Carry out detailed review of hours worked by employees to ensure their time costs are correctly reported against and recharged to the relevant reporting unit

Balance Sheet Management

  • Preparing detailed monthly balance sheet reconciliations – accruals, prepayments, which are analysed to confirm actions required to clear balances
  • Approvals and Set Ups
  • Reviewing and approving Talent Acquisition portal offers
  • Carrying out the employee setups in Maconomy for the employees working in the Businesses for which you are responsible.


  • Collaborating with your colleagues in the staff costs team you will share ideas and information
  • Listening to ideas and suggestions from the Finance team in relation to staff costs and reporting timelines and formats
  • Making suggestions for change and efficiency in all areas or reporting including ensuring efficient use of all systems
  • Following best practice for all internal procedures and systems
  • Assisting other team members to cover holiday and sickness

Other responsibilities

  • Audit compliance, backup for accruals, Gross Pay Headcount reconciliation, CSR Reporting
  • Ad hoc projects as directed by the Senior Staff Cost Accountant / Group Staff Cost Manager


  • 3+ years previous experience of working in a Finance team
  • Strong excel and systems skills (Maconomy and/or Workday would be an advantage)


  • Media industry experience or project-based service industry
  • Experience dealing with staff costs or payroll
