Are you looking for a career that actually moves as fast as you do? In the recruitment world, progression is often used as a buzzword, but at Goodman Masson, it is a tangible reality. If you have been considering working at Goodman Masson, you are likely looking for more than just a des, you are looking for the freedom to build something entirely your own.
Jack Benson’s career is the perfect case study in long-term growth. In just six years, he has evolved from an ambitious newcomer into a Divisional Director leading strategy and driving high-performing teams forward.
We sat down with Jack to talk about the non-negotiables of success: the transition from solo billing to leadership, the power of daily consistency, and what it really takes to reach the director level. See what he had to say...
My journey at Goodman Masson started six years ago when a friend who worked here encouraged me to take a look at the business. At the time, what stood out wasn't just the success people were having, but the focus on the experience.
There was a genuine focus on supporting people to achieve their full potential, celebrating success, and creating an environment where hard work was recognised and rewarded.
There have been several moments that stand out, but the most defining have been the transitions between individual success and leadership responsibility. Early promotions were incredibly rewarding because they validated the hard work I was putting in, but the biggest shifts came when I started leading and developing others.
Building teams, helping people achieve their own career goals, and watching colleagues earn promotions has probably been the most fulfilling part of my journey. Another defining moment was being trusted with greater responsibility to shape strategy and contribute to the wider direction of the business. Each promotion brought new challenges, but also new opportunities to learn, grow and make a bigger impact.
The biggest mindset has been focusing on continuous improvement rather than perfection. I've always tried to be curious, seek feedback and learn from both successes and setbacks.
Consistency has also been incredibly important. Recruitment is a profession where small actions repeated every day can create significant results over time. Staying disciplined, maintaining high standards and doing the basics exceptionally well has made a huge difference.
I've also always believed in being a team player. While individual performance matters, long-term success comes from helping others succeed too. Building strong relationships, being willing to support colleagues and putting the team's goals alongside my own has been fundamental to my progression. I've been fortunate to work with brilliant leaders, mentors and teammates who have supported me throughout my career.
People are what motivate me most. Recruitment gives you the opportunity to genuinely change someone's career, help organisations build exceptional teams and create opportunities that can have a lasting impact.
Internally, I'm motivated by seeing people develop and achieve things they didn't think were possible. Watching someone join the business, build confidence, hit milestones and progress in their career is incredibly rewarding.
I'm also motivated by growth. There's always another challenge to tackle, another market to explore, another team member to support or another goal to strive for. That constant opportunity to learn and improve is what keeps the role exciting, even after six years.
Embrace every opportunity and be patient with your development.
Goodman Masson is a business that genuinely invests in its people, but growth doesn't happen overnight. Focus on learning, stay curious, ask questions and don't be afraid to make mistakes. Some of the biggest lessons in my career have come from the moments that didn't go exactly as planned.
Surround yourself with successful people, be coachable and make the most of the support available to you. If you bring energy, resilience and a willingness to learn, the opportunities here are enormous.
Most importantly, enjoy the journey. The relationships you build, the people you help and the experiences you gain are just as important as the promotions along the way. Six years ago I joined because I was inspired by the culture and the people. Today, those are still the reasons I'm proud to be here.
Jack Benson’s story is a perfect example of what happens when you combine personal drive with an environment designed to help you win. Whether you are eyeing up a consultant role or dreaming of reaching the director table, the opportunity is waiting for you.
