By Sophie O'Sullivan (She/Her)

After what felt like the longest January this century, get ready to mark your calendars for a vibrant celebration: February welcomes the arrival of LGBT+ History Month in the UK. This annual commemoration of queer life and heritage throughout the ages serves as a delightful remedy to the winter gloom. The theme of LGBT+ History Month 2024 is ‘medicine’, highlighting the work and lives of historical LGBTQ+ people who worked in medicine, including healthcare.

For those who simply can’t wait until the main Pride parades and festivals in the Summer, fear not – there’s an abundance of events to populate your diaries in the meantime! Whether you are a member of the community, an Ally, or looking for family-friendly fun, there’s an array of colourful activities to choose from.

Vogue Fem Workshop
What better way to mark the month than to dust off your dancing shoes and head to Pineapple Dance Studios for a Vogue Fem dance class. If you are familiar with the cult documentary Paris Is Burning, TV Show Pose or even the Madonna music video, you will know! This class is open to all levels, including beginners, and is inspired by the extravagant dance style that originated in the queer ballrooms of Harlem during the 1980s. This class is taught by the legendary Karteer Mugler, Father of the Kiki House of Louboutin. Who knows, you might discover you’ve got moves that make the Queen of Pop question her reign!

Where: Pineapple Dance Studio, 7 Langley St, London WC2H 9JA
When: Various dates throughout February

Picture this: a cosy space where all the bookish goodness you buy sends the love right back into the business. It’s not just a bookshop; it’s a glittering beacon for the wider LGBT community. Join the literary fun where the pages are as colourful as the people who fill the space!
